Meet the Flips

With roots in the Philippines and a classic kiwi rural life, our founders bring together their passion for good food and their love of all living things to bring you a new range of plant-based meat options that are sure to get your creativity flowing in your kitchen.


Many years ago, I moved from my native Philippines to make Aotearoa my home, with the commitment to contribute back to the nation that embraced me as its own, but without forgetting my roots – where I came from, what parts of my heritage and identity I can share with New Zealand, and how I can add value to our society through my journey of becoming a vegan. My choice for turning to the plant side was, in part, drawn from the love I have for my two rescued bunnies and the warmth and joy they have brought to my life. Being responsible for our animal friends is a great privilege, and I decided I couldn’t eat animal products anymore.

I missed the flavours of traditional non-vegan food, especially my ethnic Filipino Cuisine, which generally relies on animal products for its base flavours, textures and components. I have been a foodie since my pre-vegan days, and I know that there is a place for plant-based versions of ethnic-inspired cuisines in New Zealand. My mission is to revolutionise and inspire fellow Kiwis to embrace their creativity in the kitchen while being more conscious of the impact of our food choices and lifestyles on ourselves and the planet.


As a kid, I spent a lot of time on a farm, where my love for cows began. As I grew up, I realised where the cows were being taken once they left the farm in that big ole cattle truck, and my nine year old heart was truly heartbroken. Drawing a connection between what was on my plate and what was in our field really struck a chord in me (and it's true, do not name your meat!)

Leaving home, I went vegan, but not being a confident cook and finding vegan ingredients too expensive or hard to find in supermarkets, meant not eating healthy. I returned to meat, but my stance on animal products got stronger so one day I gave up meat and dairy and now eat a mostly plant-based diet (my love for seafood is strong!)

I learnt to cook, and love that it's becoming easier to find plant-based alternatives in supermarkets, not just specialty stores.

This journey with Flipit Foods is important to me because I want to help other people who may not be vegan but are looking to get more of a balance in their lives for their health, their families, the planet and of course those gorgeous brown eyed moo cows!
